BBMX Prologue

Warm up your season on our permacourse we built last season at the Bellingham BMX 30 acre cycling-specific venue. Come see what we've been developing for over a year - the first permanent cyclocross course in the PNW, one of only three in the country, and the only one on private land! This gives us lots of options for layout and features which will be added over years as our humble resources and dedicated volunteer time allows.

This event will break from the standard format of CCX events. We will race in the afternoon & evening, after the BMX racing has ended. Why not try both?

We will also be breaking from the usual categories. Think hot laps with a relay.

Bellingham BMX Track :: Bellingham, WA

Brought to you by Bellingham BMX on Sept 27, 2014

Times:
Course building - 10:00am
Sign-ups & warmup - 1:00pm
Round 1 - 2:00pm
Round 2 - 2:30pm
Kids Race - 3:00pm
Consolation - 3:15pm
Final - 3:45pm

Cost:
$15 goes to the help with the costs of building & improving this permanent course. The more we raise, the more features can be added over time - think sandpits, bridges, lights, MTB skill features, etc.

Race format:
No series points, no categories, no official results. Team up with a friend, preferably in a way that balances your ability levels. Are you typically hanging with the A Men? Pair with a beginner woman. Midpack B racer? You can race with another C or B. Self-seed and self-sort. If you don't have a partner, we will find you one at the race! Approx. 25 minute races divided by 2. Probably two or three laps each racer for each round.

We will fill up reasonable-sized fields for Prelim Rounds 1 & 2 based on when people arrive. The fastest teams will transfer to the Final round. The slowest teams will race the Consolation round.

Bring refreshments, hang out, get your heart rate up and chat with friends in between. Help us beat in the track. Dial in your new race equipment. Tell the class what you did for fun last summer.

Directions:
Bellingham BMX is at 5022 Guide Meridian (map) just north of Kelly Road and south of Smith Road. Look for a long chain link fence and white buildings painted with orange trim. It is across the road from a "Gifts & Things" store with flags & banners out front.

Riding Options:
The Guide Meridian is a highway, but the shoulder near the venue is wide & safe. Not so much in the zone near I-5 and the Bellis Fair Mall all the way to Walmart, so here are some alternate bike commute routes to the track via backroads & trails. These are relatively quiet & safe routes, one on roads with good bike lanes and/or light traffic, and one on a mix of urban trails & dirt roads on a pretty mountain (a.k.a. a cyclocross warmup).

BMX Racing:
You can watch or experience top-notch BMX racing right inside the same venue this Saturday. With USA BMX, everyone gets a one-day free membership to try out the sport. There's even a strider race on a special track for the kiddos! Sign-ups are 10am to 11am with a couple hours of racing to follow.

When the BMX racing wraps up, we'll reset the track for the cyclocross prologue. Why not try both!
